Hello. I’m Colleen, I still pay to host this blog, and I am awash with news. Let’s take it to bullet points:
I finished nursing school!!
We also put our apartment in Queens on the market!!!
We got a car!!!!
We moved to Indiana!!!??
Went to England!!!!!
So the big news definitely is Kirk got a job in Chicago and we moved, sort of. Everything happened over the course of August; it was insane and horrible and pretty much an out of body experience. (No, seriously, I finished nursing school, packed up half the house, bought the car, drove to Indiana, flew to London the next day, came back to Indiana, and Kirk started his new job the next day).
This was a move we had been contemplating a while. Since I was finishing nursing school and starting a new career and my husband had clocked more than five years at Tumblr, it felt like an opportune time to fly the coop. NYC has a way of sinking its talons into your weak flesh, so once we saw a sliver of an opening we took it.
Fortunately we’re already in contract x2. Our place in Queens has been in contract for over a month (co-op closings take forever), and we have a contingent contract for a cute house in the North Shore suburbs. So while we’re currently living with my parents and our pets in Indiana (lolcry), the situation has an expiration date.
I have to go back to NYC once more to finish packing and oversee the movers, so I haven’t tapped the “leaving NYC” well yet. I haven’t missed the city yet, but I also haven’t had time to ruminate and wallow. Busyness is a balm for the neurotic.
I hope the three of you left reading will stick around for life in Chicago suburbia. The travails will be many: new job, new house, will I ever find a decent winter coat, etc.
